Member At Large Junior High School

What position are you running for in the WTU? WTU executive board Member at Large Junior High School

If you are running on a slate, provide the name: Unity

What school(s) do you work at? Brookland Middle School

What is your current role at your school? Music Teacher

How many years have you worked for DCPS? 3 years

Describe your leadership experience, including what you have done in the WTU I am a WTU School Delegate, a member in the SCAC and on LSAT team of my school, I am in the DC Caucus of Rank and File Educators DC CORE as the Treasurer.

Why are you running? (Max. 1000 characters) I want to be a part of the change and I want to hold the WTU leadership accountable for members voices. I want to help create a Union that is about ACTION instead of Talking.

What is your vision for the union? (Max. 1000 characters) I want to see a TRANSPARENT and MEMBER DRIVEN union that makes DCPS Leaders stand up and take notice. I want the take more power back to the people on the front lines of our schools. Too much authority in the WTU is placed on the leaders and not the members, I want to help give a voice to the members.

If elected, what are your top 3 priorities that you would focus on to achieve your vision for the WTU? (Max. 1000 characters) First would be to have a TRANSPARENT WTU not based on secrets and back conversations. Second I would demand that the WTU give more surveys getting information that will inform direction to the WTU leadership. Third I will focus on pushing contract negotiations to be finalized and for teachers to get the best possible outcome in their contract. We have been without an updated contract for way too long

What are your top 3 contract priorities for future negotiations? Teacher Pay increases, Stopping Impact’s Discriminatory practices, More mental and Vacation days for teachers or PD days without students.

What is the strategy the WTU should take to achieve that vision?

If elected, what is your role in achieving that vision? I will be the person in the Executive board that will ask the hard questions and make sure that leaders are hearing from members. I will be consistently be asking about putting out surveys. I am hoping, if elected, to be in charge of surveys getting prospectives from teachers on moves that the WTU leadership should do to make their members lives better.

If elected, how do you see yourself working with caucuses like DC-CORE? I would be working very closely with DC Core. I am a member of the Caucus anyway 😂. I believe 100% in the principles that DC Core represents by bending member driven.

Do you believe that the WTU should organize and prepare to be "strike ready"? Yes
